The name 'Bermuda Triangle' was first coined in 1964 by Vincent H. Gaddis gave. He named the area the Bermuda Triangle after the strange occurrence of everything disappearing in an unnamed area of ​​the North Atlantic Ocean.

The area of ​​the place is about 1,300,300 to 3,900,000 square kilometers according to the author. However, earlier on September 17, 1950, The Miami Herald newspaper reported on the disappearance of the ship in the area.

The name of this place and its events became very famous in the seventies. Since then pilots and sailors keep telling stories about this place. It later turns out that most of them are actually fabricated stories to become famous.

This area is actually an aquatic area formed by the connection of three land points in the south of the United States: Miami Puerto Rico and Bermuda Islands.

Interestingly, the first written incident related to this is not from the last century. When Christopher Columbus traveled from Europe to America in the fifteenth century, he wrote about it in his journal. As he passes through Florida and Puerto Rico, his compass begins to drift. On December 5, 1872, a freighter called the Marie Celeste sailed from New York Harbor. But the goods never arrived where they were supposed to. After much searching, the ship was found floating in the Bermuda Triangle area. But none of the 11 crew members were on board. Personal belongings, food, valuables, lifeboats are all intact in the ship, only the people are gone. More surprisingly, there was food on the plates, which had rotted by the time rescuers arrived. In 1881, a ship named Ellen Austin found an abandoned ship floating in the ocean. The ship's crew planned to retrieve the abandoned ship's cargo. Some people got off the ship from such thoughts. They were thinking of taking the ship to New York. The two ships left together. But Ellen Austin soon lost sight of the nameless ship. 

When found again later, it was found that the ship was abandoned, their own crew also disappeared! A message was then sent from Ellen Austin to send a rescue ship. When the rescue ship arrived, both the Austin and the unnamed ship from the Bermuda Triangle had disappeared. They were never found. 

It is said that many ships have seen these two ships traveling together in the sea, they were trying to mislead other ships.

Similarly, in 1918, the USS Cyclops, a Brazil-bound ship that had been released by the US government to aid the British in World War I, disappeared without a trace, in late February. 

It was last seen off the coast of Barbados on 4 March. 306 crew also disappeared with it. In 1941, USS Proteus and USS Nereus were similarly lost.

Now let's talk about the plane. 

The most talked about disappearance in the Bermuda Triangle is Flight Nineteen. In early December 1945, five of the US Navy's best Avenger bombers took off on a routine mission. Lt. Charles Taylor was regularly talking to Bez on the radio. But suddenly, halfway through the sentence, everything went silent. Not that it was faded or blurred - it was completely gone. The five planes were never seen again. The planes sent to rescue them never returned. And the place is Bermuda Triangle. It was written in the investigation that they disappeared for 'unknown reasons'. 

February 2, 1963. The 600-foot monstrous Marine Sulfur Queen sails on her final voyage. Inside were 15,000 tons of molten sulfur and 39 crew members. By February 4th, everyone knew the ship's location, in the Bermuda Triangle. Then suddenly the radio transmission went off. Before turning off, the commander was saying how beautiful the weather was, how excellent the navigation was going.

Many more stories can be told, but not all stories are true. However, many people have tried to solve the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle, some have given strange theories.

National Geographic tried to solve this mystery. According to their article published on March 4, 2016, about 75 planes and about 300 ships were lost in the Bermuda Triangle. 

Many scientists believe that the accidents were actually caused by human error, hostile weather and bad luck. But naturally these theories do not explain all the phenomena. When asked about this, the US Coast Guard's official statement was, "Our experience shows that the unpredictability of nature and human nature often beats science fiction."

The US Coast Guard has always been suspicious of the Bermuda Triangle. There have also been cases where it was reported that no bodies were found after the shipwreck, when in fact the Coast Guard took enough pictures of the bodies.

Researchers Ernest Taves and Barry Singer state that many businesses have been, and are, based on the Bermuda Triangle. A lot of money is made in the media with it. So falsifying it is actually economically damaging. That's why the rumors are getting more and more swollen.

Scientists argue that due to the high volume of talk about this region, the human mind does not pay much attention to accidents in other regions. This is not to say that accidents do not occur in places other than the Bermuda Triangle; This region is actually like any other region of the ocean, this is the most popular opinion of scientists.

And, many times the stories are told with color added later. In fact, many ships, cruises and flights pass by the Bermuda Triangle every day to the Americas, Europe and the Caribbean Islands. Due to more traffic, the number of accidents in this area is high. It has nothing to do with triangles. Moreover, another place like Bermuda Triangle is Devil's Sea or Dragon's Triangle.

But there is no mystery in the Bermuda Triangle? There is It is true that a few incidents have not been satisfactorily explained even today. But there is no evidence that they actually have any influence on the Bermuda Triangle.

However, an interesting theory was given by Colorado State University's satellite meteorologist. Steve Miller.

In October 2016, he analyzed NASA satellite images and told the Science Channel's What on Earth program that hexagonal clouds could be seen in places across the Bermuda Triangle area. Here even winds blow up to 170 miles per hour. These air-pockets can cause ship or plane crashes. Some clouds extend from 20 to 55 miles. However, he said, more research is needed to be sure about this.

However, a popular theory for a long time was the methane hydrate gas theory. The amount of land that extends underwater from the boundary of a continent is simply called the continental shelf. There is a large presence of methane hydrate natural gas. Experiments in Australia show that bubbles created from such places can reduce the density of water and sink even large ships. Shipwrecks can be caused by these bubbles, whether regular or irregular, as the Bermuda Triangle borders the continent. In this case, the ship may sink quickly without any warning. 

But this theory cannot explain the plane crash. Moreover, this theory died in the field when, in the 21st century, the U.S. According to Geological Survey (USGS), no methane hydrate gas has been released in this area in the last fifteen thousand years. Geologist Bill Dillion from the USGS also said that the Bermuda Triangle is actually a myth.

In 1975, Larry Kusche published the book The Bermuda Triangle Mystery: Solved. He argues that Gaddis and other authors who named the Bermuda Triangle actually exaggerated in many places. They even took stories from fake and hearsay. He proved many stories wrong. More interestingly, most of the incidents attributed to victims of the Bermuda Triangle actually occurred outside the triangle. As he searched for the truth of the stories, he found that many stories did not actually happen. There are also cases where the story of the disappearance of a ship is told, but the fact that it later returned is not told. Shipwrecks are not surprising in tropical cyclone prone areas. 

Incidentally, an example of exaggeration can be given. I was talking about Flight Nineteen. It is true that the cause was written as 'unknown' in the investigation. But it was originally written as pilot error, but it was changed under pressure from the relatives of the deceased. Before he went missing, the pilot said the compass was not working, he didn't know where he was, maybe toward Florida.

In the era without GPS, the only way for pilots to determine their own position was by knowing where they had started and how long and how fast they had flown - so it was very difficult to determine where they were on the ocean once they lost their way. It is partly true that the search party never returned. In fact, one of the search party's two Martian Mariner planes never returned. Why did not say these words immediately when telling the stories? Because, otherwise, it is not possible to understand how the stories became widely heard and known without explanation and investigation in the first place. But later when we get into the depth of the story, we understand that actually the story is a little different. Take, for example, the sulfur-carrying ship, the Marine Sulfur Queen. But the ship was too accident-prone, too frail—the Coast Guard said the ship shouldn't be operated, an accident waiting to happen. It's an irony that the last minute blame falls on the Bermuda Triangle, not the ship. For example, look at the twin ship SS Marine Sulfur Queen, what a beautiful frail tanker broken in two. 

The much-reported compass drifting mystery remains unsolved. According to many, there must be a magnetic anomaly in this area. But nothing was actually found. It is true, however, that the misalignment of the compass with the magnetic pole is nothing new, being known to sailors for centuries. 

And there is a lot of confusion about the historical dependence of Ellen Austin and the unnamed ship mentioned at the beginning. And pilot Bruce Garnon could not provide any proof of his 28 minute loss, moreover he claimed to have seen many UFOs during his pilot life. After all this he lost credibility with the scientific community.
